Eureka Valley da Hood

This 1969 photo was the corner of Castro and 18th Streets in Eureka Valley that is now often referred to as The Castro. My sister, Marie, live above the liquor store. The Hibernia bank on opposite corner and down from the bank my parents first owned a fish, small grocery store and later building after white store sign - The Village Fish n' chip shop. 

See the girl to right in Catholic school uniform? That would be from Most Holy Redeemer, the neighborhood parochial school that I went to and also featured, under another name, in my book.

Going up 18th Street toward Collingwood Street toward yet another liquor store. My friends Karen and Patty.

High (take that any way you want it was 1969) on Rocky Mountain. Since a kid I'd trek on up this hill and look back over "the Valley" as we called Eureka Valley which is behind me.
