Becoming a witch meant I could have a grand time with spells and that included not only casting but learning so many different ones researching how words and gestures enhance the intention and shopping in the variety of shops that sell occult objects, tools and paraphernalia.
Either I've become a backslider or found that casting a spell isn't necessary for creating magic in my life. Let me assure you that I do, on occasion cast a spell but my daily thoughts before, during and after meditating are increasingly my source of power.
As I had learned when approaching spells, magic truly begins in the mind of the creators. Although must admit that the ritual of manifesting through spell casting holds a quality of power that is truly magical. A spell is a time to focus one's intention clearly through the enjoyment and beauty of a ritual. It helps to pull in scattered thoughts into one-pointed thinking.
Preparing for the spell - gathering selected colored candles, incense, flowers and other objects is like a joyful treasure hunt. Setting up the altar and then dressing or undressing for the ritual creates a sacredness to the possibilities to come. Eventually I learned how the driving force of my mentalism was the truth and spells became limited in my witch practice. Yet I maintain an altar with candles, incense and other special (holy) objects to enjoy while I focus on creating from the power of my mind's images.
